Supermarket products, electronics and gasoline are in the top of credit card shopping in Romania

12.04.2010 - According to Garanti Bank statistics, most frequently Romanians use their credit cards for shopping at supermarkets, electronics shops and gas stations, followed by do-it-yourself and clothing stores.

In 2009, Garanti Bank doubled the number of its Bonus Card credit cards, which exceeded 80,000, being considered the best sold credit card in Romania in 2009 by No-Cash, an independent organization specialized on cards and electronic payments markets.

This increase was mainly due to the significant number and diversity of the campaigns carried out throughout the entire year that offered attractive discounts, the possibility of paying in interest free installments, as well as higher bonuses.

For 2010, Garanti Bank plans to register a similar performance regarding the evolution of Bonus Card, wishing to reach more than 150,000 cards. At the same time, the bank plans to extend the Bonus Card merchant partners network in the entire country, from currently 3,200 to more than 5,000 until the end of the year, according to the customers’ top preferences.

“In less than 3 years since its launch, Bonus Card has become the best sold credit card on the market, due to its unique advantages and rewarding system through bonuses that may be used for free shopping within the merchant partners network. We are motivated by the performance registered last year when we succeeded to double the credit cards sold and we intend to maintain the same trend next year, together with the extension of the benefits offered to the consumers. We are happy that our performance was also appreciated by cards industry specialists of No-Cash, who awarded us the distinction for The best sold credit card in 2009.” Ilgaz Kaya, Cards Director at Garanti Bank, stated.
