Phishing Attacks
Lately there has been an increasingly greater number of phony e-mails on the internet which look as if they have been sent by a company (such as a bank or financial institution) that the receiver trusts and which claim to be concerned with an urgent matter, usually having to do with the customer's account. These e-mails contain links that take the customer to the sender's own website where he may be asked to enter information about credit cards, passwords, personal identification numbers, and the customer himself. This is an attempt to defraud the customer by obtaining confidential information from him.
If you ever receive such an e-mail, do not reply to it and do not enter any of the information it asks for.
Garanti Bank never conducts any passworded transaction or asks customers for confidential information by e-mail.
To protect yourself and your account against such attacks, pay attention to these points:
- Be absolutely sure of who the sender of an e-mail is and of its authenticity.
- Never click on any link in an e-mail that you've received from someone you don't know. If such an e-mail has any attachments, don't save them on your computer or open them.
- In principal, avoid clicking on website links that you receive by e-mail. Instead, enter the address of the website in the browser address bar yourself.
- Be suspicious of any internet address that consists of just numbers. Most reputable websites contain the name of the company or organization in the address.
- If you ever respond in any way to a phishing attack e-mail about your Garanti Bank account, immediately go to the Garanti Bank online branch yourself and change your card and online branch passwords.
- Any phishing attack related to the Garanti Bank online branch should be reported to Alo Garanti on 0 800 80 12345.
Remember: If you ever receive a suspicious e-mail of this sort, never click on any of its links and certainly never enter any confidential information.
If you ever do respond to such an e-mail and enter any information about your Garanti Bank Bank accounts, immediately call Help Desk on 0 800 80 12345 and cancel your password.
